| I saw AC/DC a couple of times at the Apollo, great nights! I was the 'School girl'
sitting up in the VIP boxes on the 2nd.night (Sat) of the FTATR tour on 9th Oct
'82.I'm looking for either the review for that gig which was in SOUNDS or the name of
the journalist, who happened to be sitting beside me that night and who had to look
after me as I was so 'out of my head' with meeting the band. The poor guy had a
lunatic on his hands that night!! I hope someone can help me out here.

| Just found this web site tonight, so apologies if you already have the Sounds Review
- but I have the original paper. The journalist was Dave Lewis. It was a brilliant
concert and I remember a 'schoolgirl' being escorted through the stalls by the
bouncers before the gig started - what a wonderful sight !!!!!!!!!!!!
If you
want a copy let me know.

| Magic. Saw them once on Highway tour 1979, twice on Back In Black and twice on For
Those About To Rock. The atmosphere was indescribable. It doesn't exist ANYWHERE
these days. I even managed to catch Angus's cap during Hells Bells when he launched
it into the crowd. It is still produced regularly to disbelieving friends at parties,
etc. I have every ticket stub and programme from gigs I attended between 1979 and the
closure of the old place. Will be digging them out of the loft tonight for some
nostalgia.

| Hi Graeme, I was also at the Highway to Hell tour 1979 and both nights of the
Back in Black tour 1980. I have seen many many concerts over the years but the
Highway gig is still my best concert, insurpassable. You are right the
atmosphere watching AC/DC at their peak in the Glasgow Apollo cannot be
equalled. I was in the low box near the stage on the left hand side of the
Apollo, truly a night which cannot be repeated. Today's kids have really no
idea how great a concert that was - the crowd were 100 percent witht the band and
the band 100 percent with the crowd, fantastic.

| Hello. I may be writing a book about Highway To Hell and I'd love to talk with
anyone who was at the Glasgow 1979 show. Any chance that anyone in Robert
Ellis' famous photo from the show is on this forum?

| So many good memories of the band in the early days. Saw the early tours (City Halls
and Glasgow Uni) before they moved onto the Apollo. Best memories. Either one
afternoon travelling round Glasgow in the front of a transit van with Bon Scott
between the soundcheck and the concert (honest), or the Tour when they had the 'new
kids'(Def Leppard) as support. One of the Classicic Apollo double bills; probably the
only support band I ever say who got a standing ovation as they came onto the stage.

|
| I was there too. Def Leppard were so young, but they could play. Even so, who's have
thought they'd get so big. Anyway, it's a pity that only saw Bon Scott this one time.
By the next tour he was gone. I'll never forget Angus on his shoulders, going round
the boxes, circles, and so on. I was in the circle so that was special. The Back in
Black Tour was good, but never the same without Bon.

|
| I agree, although AC/DC are huge it was never really the same without Bon. I was also
at the Highway to hell gig in 79, as a young Hev this gig totally blew me away. This
was also my first time at the Appollo, I still have the treasured programme. I was in
the Circle when Angus did the 'on shoulders stunt' I had a laugh after the crowd had
rushed to get closer to Angus as lying 'unhurt' on the floor was a big guy who sold
me my first AC/DC album. Cheers Tony from the record stall up Wishaw market.

| Does anyone know if any other venue would shout Brian Johnson's name for the encore
the way the Apollo did?.It seemed like he really appreciated the gesture. I would
assume Newcastle would, but I think that kind of atmosphere and fan appreciation made
the Apollo such a special place for bands to play.

| My best gig at the Apollo was AC/DC on the For Those About To Rock tour. I will
never forget the plaster on the roof falling into the stalls during For Those About
TO Rock. Great gig by a band who still rock!

during "one night in a club called the Shaking Hand" -brilliant and
unfortunatly their last Apollo gig! Cheeers Noddy

| this was "the best" show i ever saw at the apollo. i was lucky enough to
see ac/dc back in 77 with bon scott, but brian johnson steped in an did a dam good
job as lead singer. i allso recall plaster falling from the roof along with the
balcony shakeing, ac/dc really shook the place all night long. an the way the apollo
crowd was chanting brian's name that was a 1st for me. i find my self very lucky
to have been there that night truly rock-n-roll history. long live the apollo you are
for every in my heart & soul!!!!!!!!!! cheers, jimmy

| hello dee bomber,
i was glad you confirmed to my pals that we did indeed chant
brian johnston`s name on that night. they could not remember. this was the
first time i had seen ac/dc as i had to give up my ticket for the highway to hell
tour the year previously & missed bon`s last stand. the back in black concert was
fantastic & i remember the build up where they played the who`s , won`t get fooled
again, over the pa with the whole place up on the seats going mental
anticipating angus & the boys arrival. the band still put on a good show however
the apollo nights were unique. rock on..... hec

| they were the best............... when Bon Scott died so did ac/dc. I'm sorry,
but Brian Johnson just does not cut it. A new generation of fans have grown up
with the cloth capped one but nothing comes close to Bon in full flight strutting
across the stage at the Apollo with Angus on his shoulders. I saw ac/dc do their
1st gig at the Apollo in'77 I think it was. I was hooked. I didn't miss a gig
when they were in town. Then Bon took the highway to hell. Saw the next gig with the
geordie and that was me finished the band. No Bon no point. I do remember Def
leppard being quite good, but the support band that stuck with me was Stiff Little
Fingers. The Apollo was THE place to be at the time, you could see the bands really
enjoyed playing there.

| I can't believe that they played the Apollo 9 times. Early gigs with Bon were the
best-no contest. I remember waiting for the doors to open and noticing a
camouflaged portacabin in the lane next to the Apollo. Who'd have believed that this
mobile studio would record us at our best...Angus!!..Angus!!....magic. Got
"removed" after only 4 AC/DC songs during the tour with Leppard. B*****d
Apollo bouncers. Took 3 of them mind.... Was at the City Hall gig. House lights on
after ten o'clock....Bon on top of the PA belting out "Long Way To The
Top"...Angus spanking the SG on a statue plinth...the stage curtains being
hauled down....the first three rows of seats destroyed.....Nostalgia? Ain't it great?
Wish I was 17 again.
What a band!

| Sadly i never managed to see the band at the apollo but caught them at the secc in
1991 and at wembley arena on the stiff upper lip tour a couple of years ago. Both
times in big sheds which don't really cut it for a band of this intensity. I was one
of the fortunate ones to get tickets in the now seatless stalls for their recent gig
at the Carling Apollo (the renamed Hammersmith Odeon)last month. The fact that all
4,000 tickets sold out in 4 minutes says it all.

| Maybe it's my failing memory and too much whisky, but I think the setlist for the
Friday night in October 82 is wrong.
I remember feeling disappointed
because they didn't do "Highway to Hell". Couldn't go Saturday -
maybe they did it then.
I remember a really serious discussion with my
mates on the way home (as you do when you're 16!!) about how they didn't do it out of
respect for the dearly departed Bon as only he could do it justice.
Also, was
there not another support act before Y&T? An American outfit called The Rods - total
and utter keech so they were. Big on attitude, short on originality.

| yep the setlist is wrong tho they did play highway to hell! y&t were the only support
band. i do remember the rods on the scene rodabout then might have supported
iron maiden and i think they might have done a 3 band tour with 2 other american
bands, might have been sponsered by sounds if i remember correctly. any way ac/dc set

| boyzoboyz, David: my memory is truly shot and I'm totally confused.
Genuinely surprised about inclusion of highway to hell both nights. Also, your
setlists mean I went Saturday night, coz I remember The Jack and the set closer being
TNT, but I was sure I skipped the BB to go and my Dad being totally
unimpressed. He was coming in as I went out in my combat jacket and trainers
and tried to make me put my school shoes on because they were leather and it was
raining!!!! I tried to point out that I would die of ridicule and probably
get my head kicked in for being a "poof", which cut no ice. Then
I realised my trainers were leather too and so just as water-resistant.
"Shot Down in Flames", my Dad skulked off with the usual "don't
blame me if you catch p - neumonia!"
I'll have to go
rummage through my ticket stubs. Maybe I'm getting mixed up with Lizzy the
following year on the Thunder and Lightning tour. Did The Rods support Lizzy I
wonder?

| Off topic but this is bugging me. Definitely saw "The Rods" at the
Apollo. Granted the place was pretty empty at the time so probably not many saw
them. I remember they plugged their "In the Raw" album which was
released in 1981, so the timing would be right. Are you certain they weren't on
the undercard before Y&T? I wasn't at Maiden so couldn't have been then.
