| And then he walked along the edge of the Circle
This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!
New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

| i only saw lizzy once and that was on thier farewell tour, in 1983. i was so knocked
out by them at that gig that i am still a big fan and regularly play them at home,
the live stuff mostly. I wonder if Tom Russell can persuade his bosses at SRH to
release the recording of that show, or replay it on Tom's Show on Radio Clyde. the
song that touched me most was (well it was two songs at that gig ) Holy War and The
Sun Goes Down both amazing songs. When brian robertson came on that was great as
well. The support band Mama's Boys from ireland impressed me greatly too, i
followed them for many years seeing them in aberdeen and in glasgow many time.
Aye Thin Lizzy a great band, Phil you are sadly missed.

| The most memorable time I saw Lizzy was at the Glasgow Apollo on June 17th 1978;
the mini-tour to warm up for the two Wembley gigs (thank god I was able to see them
before all tours began and ended in huge halls). The Apollo was absolutely
jumping, the anticipation for Lizzy was electric; Johnny Cougar was the support
act and while he didn't get the abuse the Radiators got (and earned) the year
before, he was largely ignored. With the opening notes of Jailbreak the
flash-bombs went off and there was Phil, centre stage, wearing a Scotland
top! When the crowd finally quietened after "Jailbreak", Phil touched
his fist to his chest and said one word: "Champions" The place
erupted!!! …………….and never quite calmed down again. The reason I remember this gig
so well is that after each song, the band could not start the next one because of
the crowd singing 'Lizz-y'. Phil was appealing for us to stop, faux bashfully at
first, then really humbly but the crowd would not let up Lizzy literally could
not start the next song throughout the whole gig due to the crowd being so
loud.

| Lizzy nights at the Apollo were always charged. The simple but effective backdrop of
the Lizzy logo was enough tos end us all wild. Brillant band, technically superb and
a great atmosphere all round. Met the band on two occasions and Lynott was as sharp
as a pin when my mate asked him, after he had written about 100 autographs - 'Doesn't
your hand hurt?' 'No', replied Lynott - 'I do a lot of w*nking'. A great band
whose live album has to be in the top 5 of all time.

| I can remember a Thin Lizzy concert where Phil wore a kilt, is that the same one as
he wore the Scotland top? I had it in my mind that it was near New Year and they
played Auld Lang Syne...am I wrong? Ta Jackie

| It was probably Bob Geldof he wore a kilt back to front.
My wife Karen and her
friend Deidrie went to all the Thin Lizzy gigs (Not to mention countless other bands)
at the Apollo and have some great stories to tell. I'll try and get her to
write them up and post them.
