And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on Ozzy Osbourne [reply]

I STILL HAVE MY TICKET IN FULL BECAUSE THE SHOW
WAS CANCELLD BECAUSE OF OZZY BITING THE HEAD OFF OF A BAT BACK IN THE STATES.

I take it it's not the 1980 gig you're referring to. I went to the gig (Ozzy's first gig as Blizzard of Oz), I don't have the ticket but I still have the programme somewhere, and I moved down south not long after and didn't get to many more gigs at the Apollo. [reply]

no andy it was not the 1980 gig. this would have been 1982,but the oz man made good on it on a later date. [reply]

1980 was his first tour as a solo artist, when he unleashed Randy Rhoads on us, what a player, still sadly missed. I think it was the next tour that he cancelled. I remember standing in line waiting to get in when we where told it was cancelled. Very disappointed to say the least. [reply]

The gig in 1982 was in Dec...the next 2 nights Whitesnake played...3 nights in a row...deaf and broke for Xmas...sweet.

I remember that Brad Gillis was playing gutar on that tour and Ozzy had a midget as part of his show...basic show with little special effects but brilliant none the less, just the band on stage playing music and it was great....I have since seen him in the US on bigger stages with all the effects but does not come close to the Apollo gig for atmosphere and crowd participation.

I did meet Ozzy in Rochester NY at the famous House of Guitars for a meet and greet during the mid-eighties ( in his booze and cocaine excess days), they only allowed us 1 autograph and off as I think he wanted back on the bus to do some more lines..lol

But  I stopped him in his tracks that day. Before I presented my ticket stub from the Apollo to be signed, I asked him where he had played his first gig as a solo Blizzard of Oz band.He just looked up at me as I gave him the stub ( my accent probably gave it away anyway), and he said the Glasgow Apollo ( quite a feat in those days if he could remember anything), he looked at ticket and was taken aback...he asked me if i was there and I said yes ( course he thought it was 1980 gig but who cares)...so we had a moment of Karma there, not to mention a moment of clarity on Ozzy's part ...LOL

Big shout out to my best pal Davey Loudon, with whom we shared many a great show at the Apollo
