And then he walked along the edge of the Circle

This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!

New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

Comments on Eric Clapton [reply]

WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT ERIC CLAPTON BUT SHEER BRILLIANT [reply]

9th August 1976 - Can't remember anything about Mr Pugh's Puppet Theatre but I do remember the Clapton roadies setting up (as usual seemed to take ages). This guy in a red t-shirt or sweatshirt wandered towards the front and said 'Hi!' - It was Eric. Nobody recognised him. Can't remember if the house lights might still have been on. I think there was a bit of latent, embarassed clapping. Nonetheless, it didn't seem to bother him and he went to do a great gig.

He played in 1978 with Muddy Waters as support - why no Muddy Waters on your list! I remember being amazed that I was actually seeing the real Muddy Waters. Then Muddy finished and the lights went up for the interval. After a while all the lights went out and against the dim illumination from behind the stage you could see the silhouettes of feet walking on. Out of the darkness came the opening riff of Layla. It makes my spine tingle even now describing it again. He played what I remember as a brilliant set although he didn't seem entirely aware of his surroundings. [reply]

This comes under 'Concerts Missed' or I was an idiot.
I had a fre pass and was supposed to be going to this concert with my girlfriend - Clapton and Muddy Waters.
And it was at a time when I was going to lots of concerts....
so we got hungry about six o'clock and went to have a curry in Byres Road.
And after a couple of pints we decided we couldn't be bothered and just went to the pub.
Richard Nixon once said 'you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.'
But if I could do it once, this would be the one.

Went to see him 1980, Just One Night tour, supported by Chas'n'Dave. He had a good band, Gary Brooker I remember, but Clapton was out of his box. I was row A circle, so I could see people getting disgruntled, shouting for "Cocaine", which he was obviously saving for an encore. A few started leaving when his solos started going on a bit. Chas'n'Dave blew slowhand away that night, lol. [reply]
